Let me start by making one thing really clear: I AM A GOLDMAKER. That is how I choose to enjoy the game just like others choose to be raiders, PVPers or Mythic+ Dungeoneers.
Blizzard would never make access to Mythic Raids require a ton of PVP currency (imagine the outrage if they did) and yet, they seem to think it’s perfectly fine to make the rank 2 & 3 recipes for the majority of BoE (sellable) crafted gear require Marks of Honor.
When BFA launched I found this to be a ridiculous decision but it didn’t actually affect me much as I had quite a lot of Marks saved up from doing Legion PVP World Quests. Since starting my goldmaking challenge on my new EU account though, this has been a source of a lot of frustration and anger.
I HATE PVP! I’m not good at it, I don’t enjoy it, and waiting sometimes half an hour in a BG queue only to be steamrolled by the other team that is complete with 3 healers while you have only 1 and are also 2 members short of a full team, can be rather rage inducing. To go through all of that and get no reward, thus making no progress towards that next recipe rank is infuriating, especially when you don’t want to be playing PVP in the first place. It seems though that we may be expected to do it all over again in 8.1.
Looking at the PTR, it appears that Blizzard intend for the new crafted BoE gear, Sinister Combatant’s, to require Marks of Honor for the rank 2s & 3s again. Now I know, “it’s the PTR, it could change” but the fact that the gear is called Sinister Combatant’s and the recipes are on the same vendor as the Honorable Combatant’s recipes does suggest that Blizzard intend to once again force us goldmakers to grind our faces against content that has nothing to do with goldmaking.
By now I can’t even say I’m surprised really. Every Q & A that goes by without a single question answered about issues with professions just reinforces my belief that Blizzard does not see us goldmakers as “real players.” At Blizzcon last year when Reckles (from WTB Gold) got to ask the Devs a question about how as a goldmaker he would like to know how adding scaling to old zones would affect loot drops, they replied with “oh, he’s a transmog collector.” They don’t even seem to know we exist and yet we are the reason that WoW has such a thriving economy. We are the reason that the WoW Token can even exist and be profitable for them and yet, while we never seem to get any response to any of our concerns, they respond to virtually every single little complaint from the raiding, PVP and mythic+ communities.
So, should the new crafted gear require Marks of Honor when 8.1 goes live, it is very likely that I will quit WoW, at least until something changes. I have gametime paid up until mid 2020 so I would check in from time to time just in case Blizzard suddenly recognizes that it’s not really fair to force one type of player to do content they don’t like in order to do the content that they do like, but I’m not going to hold my breath. We shall have to wait and see.
If you’ve made it this far, I apologize for the long and poorly written rant. I just had to get it off my chest. Of course all of this does mean that the future of my goldmaking challenge posts is in question. Again, we will just have to wait and see what happens.
Until next time, I wish you all Happy Goldmaking (or what ever content you “choose” to do). 🙂
